What Is Tarot?
You have heard the word Tarot before. Maybe you have seen a deck of cards at Barnes and Nobles, but what exactly is Tarot? The Tarot opens your intuitive sense. Its pictures stimulate your gut feelings. Tarot cards can be used for practical problem-solving, creative visualisation, meditation, self-improvement, as a tool of understanding, for divination and fortune-telling.
Although Tarot has existed for centuries, the oldest known deck of cards is dated in the year 1420. There is speculation that Tarot is much older than the 1400’s, but there is no concrete proof. Tarot is a form of fortune telling with the use of a deck of 52 cards called the Tarot. No studies of the occult would be possible without symbolism. Symbolism is known to bridge the gap between foreign languages and the deaf. The most interesting form of Symbolism is the Tarot.
Tarot falls into 3 divisions. The first part has 20 one numbered cards. The second part has 1 zero card. The third part has 56 cards. The triangle is God or the world of ideas, or the nominal world. The point is man’s soul. The square is the visible, physical or phenomenal world.
Believe it or now, Tarot is associated with ideas in Kabala and Alchemy. Does this mean that Madonna has been practicing Tarot for years? Kabalists believe that every phenomenon and every object consists of 4 basic principles. However, we won’t get into that today, as this article is all about the meaning of the Tarot.
Some of the more popular cards you may have heard of in the Tarot at The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Chariot and The Lovers. For more information on the topic, please visit the Tarot Store for many books on the subject.
